Generate Safeguarding Reports

This article applies to organisations with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud), as well as On-Premise only and Cloud only setups.

 

Safeguarding Reports provide an overview of the content students are accessing that may raise concerns and require further investigation. For further detail, see what content flags as a breach in these reports.

This article shows how to run Safeguarding Reports in your On-Premise Appliance or in Cloud Reporting.

On-Premise Application

Prerequisites

  1. By default, Safeguarding Reports only analyse the Domain/URL. You must set up a Decrypt and Inspect policy for Smoothwall to be able to see and report on the content within the pages.
  2. Disable your Ad blocker to ensure all breaches are visible in your report.

Run the report

  1. Go to Reports > Safeguarding > Full report.
  2. Select the Safeguarding theme to report against. You can’t select All here, so you may want to use Cloud Reporting to view all in one report.
  3. Select the User Group to report against.
  4. In multi-tenant environments, select the tenant, or select All to report on all tenants.
  5. Select the date range to report against. You can select specific start and end times and dates, or select from Today, Yesterday, Last week, Last month or Previous 7 days to select that date range. The maximum duration is 31 days.
  6. Select Run report.
  7. If needed, drill down to identify who generated a breach.
  8. To prevent items from showing as a breach in future, you can exclude Domains, URLs and Searches.

Share the report

Select Print to print or download a PDF version of your report.

The Safeguarding Full Report can’t be scheduled to be sent via email like your other reports in Reports > Scheduled. Instead, set up Scheduled Safeguarding Alerts.

Cloud Reporting

Prerequisites

If your Smoothwall is part of a cluster, switch on Cloud Reporting in a Smoothwall filter cluster.

Run the report

  1. Go to Reports > New Filter Report > Safeguarding Report tab.
  2. Configure the following fields:
    • Report name: Add a name for the report which makes it easy to identify from the list
    • Tenant: In multi-tenant environments, choose the tenant this report should look at.
    • User: Enter a username to search for breaches for a specific user, or leave the box empty to search for alerts from all users.
    • Start and end date and time.
  3. Select Run Report.
  4. Go to Reports > Reports.
  5. Select your report from the list.
  6. Go to the Report Overview tab for bar charts of the number of breaches with each Safeguarding theme, top websites visited, and top search terms. Go to the Report Data tab for a full list of breaches.

Share the report

You can either:

  • Go to Reports > Reports and select Download to download a CSV of the data from the Report Overview tab. This can be imported into Excel or a text editor and shared or printed.
  • Go to Reports > Reports and select the report. Select the icon next to the report in the Report Overview tab to download a jpeg image of the chart.
