This article applies to organisations with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud), as well as On-Premise only and Cloud only setups.
You can give access to other people in your organisation to be able to manage Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance, or the different areas in Cloud. You can give them full Administrator access, or access only to specific areas.
Once you have decided on what access to give, you can add your Administrators.
On-Premise Appliance access
Full On-Premise Appliance Administrator access
This option gives full permissions to configure the Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance. When adding an Administrator, just select the Administrator checkbox.
Access to specific areas
This option gives access only to the areas of the On-Premise Appliance setup that you choose.
When adding an Administrator, ensure you don’t select the Administrator checkbox, and select the areas to give access to from this list:
- Authentication service: View the Authentication menu.
- Bandwidth management (not available in Maiden): View the Bandwidth menu
- Guardian temporary bypass: Use the temporary bypass functionality on the block page.
- Guardian: View the Guardian top menu.
- Log: View the system log files.
- Operator: Shut down or reboot the system.
- Portal user: Sign in to the Smoothwall User Portal.
- Realtime logs: View real-time logs.
- Reporting system: View the reporting system.
- Guardian room block controls: Manage blocking of location contents.
- Temp ban: Change temporary ban status.

Cloud access
Full Cloud Administrator access
A user with full Administrator access is known as a Default Cloud Administrator. They have access to the Admin Panel, Cloud Filter and Cloud Reporting.
Access to specific areas
You can give access to filtering or reporting without the user being able to edit the setup.
When you add a user to Cloud Filter or Cloud Reporting, you select their role.
- Administrator: Can see information from all available tenants and manage Filter or Reporting Administrators.
- Filtering: Can’t manage Filter or Reporting Administrators. In a multi-tenant setup, they can only see information for the specific tenant selected.
