This article applies to organisations with a Cloud setup, and those with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud).
The Domain Report can show whether users are accessing or trying to access specific websites. It can also help you determine whether new Web Filter Policies are needed to block or allow access.
If you’ve identified individual users to follow up with, you can also drill down into their data with the User Report.

Use the Domain Report
Report Overview
The Report Overview tab provides high-level summary graphs and charts of:
- Top 10 Users: A summary of the users who have tried to access this domain the most. For example, you could use this to find students who often play games instead of working. To get a list of all users, you’d need to export the data and analyse it outside of Smoothwall.
- Traffic Over Time: The amount of traffic blocked and allowed each day for the categories selected. Please note we know of an issue where you may see the data split.
- User Hits Count: The number of access requests for content in the categories selected for each user.
- Safeguarding Alerts: The number of breaches with each Safeguarding theme, including the Severity.
Tip
Select a segment in the Top 10 Users chart, a bar in the Traffic Over Time chart, or bar in the User Hits Count list to see filtered Report Data.
Report Data
The Report Data tab gives you line-by-line full browsing activity.
- Each line includes the username, Level, URL, default or Custom Category the web content is categorised as (can be multiple), and whether access was blocked or allowed.
- You can search within a column by selecting the magnifying glass. Searching for a Top Level Domain will show results from subdomains, but entering a subdomain won’t show results for the Top Level Domain.
- You can see the timestamp for each access request. Events are ordered with the most recent at the top.
