9th May 2025

  • Fixed an issue where selecting All tenants meant you saw ‘Server error’ and couldn’t run the report.
  • Removed the blank space at the bottom of reports when the Column Selector was open.

Cloud Reports in some hybrid setups showed a blocked website as both Allowed and then Blocked. This was caused by an initial connection to categorise the site - users could not access it. Reports generated after this update only show the Blocked line.

  • Fixed an issue where a comma in the tenant’s name prevented running a report.
  • Fixed an issue where search terms with a new line character prevented downloading the report.
  • Renamed the Column Chooser to Column Selector for Safeguarding Reports to match the other report types.

8th April 2025

  • Removed the Tenant field for setups that aren’t multi-tenant, which was causing issues running Domain, Category and Safeguarding Reports.
  • Comments in the Domain/URL list display the full 40 characters rather than being truncated to 25.

Fixed an issue where you could add a space after a / in the Domain/URL List of a Custom Category.

Content Modification is moving to the Cloud!

If you have a hybrid setup, you can now manage how Content Modification Policies are applied using Cloud Filter!

  1. Update your On-Premise Appliance to Maiden-26 or above to get started.
  2. Switching over is easy - just toggle at least one Content Modification to On with both the Groups and Locations fields configured.

Other changes

  • Updated whether a Content Modification is available in Cloud Filter and On-Premise Appliance.
  • Fixed an issue in Multi-tenant environments where Safeguarding Alerts were only sent to tenant-specific contacts and not global contacts.

Report on multiple tenants

Get an overview of web activity across all your schools from one report! No need to create a report for each tenant and aggregate outside Smoothwall - just create a Cloud Report with data for multiple tenants.

  1. If you have a hybrid setup, update your On-Premise Appliance to or beyond Leeds-70.
  2. Create a report using the Domain, Category or Safeguarding report types.

Customise your Cloud Report data

Use the new Column Selector to customise the columns shown in the data table and downloads. We’ve also added new fields you may want to see at a glance, such as the Client hostname or IP.

The Publishing page now shows publishes from the last 3 months, or all publishes if none have occurred in the last 3 months.

  • Fixed an issue where Cloud Filter Filtering users couldn’t complete certain actions and were shown a 401 error.
  • Updates to the Audit Log including performance improvements, reducing the number of lines for Custom Category updates and fixing an issue where data outside the range selected was shown.

Manage access to video playlists

Block or allow access to all videos in a YouTube playlist. Add the Playlist URL to the Videos tab of a Custom Category, just as you would for individual videos.

Other changes

  • New customers now don’t have any Content Modifications switched on in the background.
  • Fixed an issue where Administrators could access Cloud Reports for tenants they didn’t have permission to view.

You can now manage access to video platform content using Cloud Filter!

  • Add the URLs or IDs of the videos you want to block or allow in the Videos tab of a Custom Category, then use this category in a Web Filter Policy.
  • Easily identify and organise your YouTube content with thumbnail images and titles for each video.

Update your devices to our new Cloud Filter Extension Version 3.1.0 or higher for this feature to work.

User Emulation is an optional new feature to allow the Smoothwall Support Team to access your cloud portal as if they were an admin user. Switch this on to help them identify any issues you may have.

Fixed an issue where updating a Custom Category with a search term over 30 characters wouldn’t save and would show an error.

  • When you’re given access to another Smoothwall Cloud instance, we’ll send you an email so you can easily select which to log into.
  • Fixed an issue where Cloud Reports users could still access reports after being deactivated.

Fixed issues with the Audit Log showing errors for search terms used in On-Premise Appliance, and showing changes to Custom Categories as ‘undefined’.

  • Fixed issues where changes were sometimes wiped if you were editing your On-Premise Appliance and Cloud Filter at the same time.
  • Errors no longer show on the Publishing page, or when you add a second source to a Location without a comment.
  • You can edit the Custom allowed content and Custom blocked content Categories again.

  • Added account details and a Sign Out button to the top right of Cloud Filter and Cloud Reports.
  • Fixed an issue where Categories selected, but not shown after searching weren’t added to the Category Group.
  • Fixed an issue where the report Time Period was shifted back 1 hour after selecting Re-run.

  • Filter the Safeguarding page by contact or group name and the Time slots page by description.
  • On the Category groups page, we’ve added a Search bar, and renamed Comment to Description to match the table.
  • Content Modifications are now sorted alphabetically.
  • Fixed an issue where some customers would see no results when searching for usernames.

  • We’ve added the Severity to Safeguarding Alert emails, and this field now includes a helpful icon and is no longer cut off in tables.
  • Sort Cloud Reports by Timestamp by selecting the column header.
  • Updated the Generated On column and date picker to DD MMM YYYY format.
  • Made sure the left menu for Cloud Reports matches other areas.
  • The Categories column width in Safeguarding Reports is now dynamic and a tooltip is displayed when the text is cropped to fit.

  • We now show the correct capitalisation of Group names on the Safeguarding page.
  • When you navigate away from the Locations, Custom categories, Policies or Content Modifications page, you’ll be prompted: ‘You have unsaved changes. Continuing without saving will cause your changes to be lost.’
  • You can now add users to Cloud Reports with dynamic aliases, such as an + in the email address username.
  • We’ve removed the username from the Safeguarding Alert email subject line.

  • Updated the date format on the Publishing and Audit Log pages to DD MMM YYYY.
  • Added the option to Re-run No Data and Failed reports.
  • Updated the date range in which a report can be run from 30 to 31 days.
  • Fixed an error message that showed to users logging out and back in.

  • Select graph data in your Safeguarding Report to be taken to filtered Report Data. Plus, you can now filter your Safeguarding Report by Severity.
  • You can now only select the View Diagnostic Information button on the Realtime Log Viewer page once you have entered a username, selected a device and selected Start Realtime Log Viewer.
