The Qoria Filter app for Android works with the Cloud Filter Extension to protect browsers and apps on ChromeOS devices. This article outlines the steps to install the Qoria Filter app for Android on ChromeOS devices via Google Workspace.
Before you begin
Ensure you have the following requirements:
- Android 11.0 (Red Velvet Cake) or higher installed on your managed ChromeOS devices.
- A Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution to manage and deploy devices.
- The Filter app for Android on ChromeOS devices must be version 71 or higher.
1: Add the Filter app for Android
- Sign in to the Google Workspace Admin Console.
- Go to Chrome > Apps and Extensions.
- Select the + (Add) at the bottom-right of the page, then select Add from Google Play.
- Find and select Qoria Filter. It will appear in the app list.
- Select Qoria Filter to start installation.
- Under Installation Policy, select Force Install.

2: Generate the Certificate
- In Smoothwall Cloud Filter, go to Admin Panel > Self-Service Certificates.
- Fill out the necessary fields to generate your certificate:
- Select your country from the Country dropdown.
- Enter your State or Province.
- In Locality, enter your city.
- In Organisation, enter your school’s name.
- In Common Name, enter your school’s domain name.
- Choose your Key size or use the default value.
- Choose the duration for your certificate’s validity. We recommend rotating your certificates every few years.
- Select Generate.
- Copy the generated Signing Certificate and Signing Certificate Key.
Tip
You can download a copy of the Certificate.
3: Add the trusted Certificate
- Go to Devices > Networks.
- On the left-hand side, select the Organisational Unit for the certificate. By default, the top-level unit (all users) is selected.
- Scroll down to Certificates and select Upload Certificate.
- Add a name for the certificate, then select Upload.
- Choose the certificate file you generated in 2: Generate Certificate.
- Under Certificate Authority, ensure you select Enabled for Chromebook.
4: Manage the Configuration Profile
- In Chrome > Apps and Extensions, select Qoria Filter.

Under Managed Configuration, set the following configuration settings:

- "UserID": Enter the specific username or email address of a valid user, or use a variable such as ${USER_EMAIL} or ${USER_EMAIL_NAME}.
- "UniqueDeviceID": An identifier that can be linked to the physical Chromebook. The unique device ID is designed to be the device serial via MDM (Google Workspace). For example, the ${DEVICE_SERIAL_NUMBER} variable or any other identifier can be used to identify the physical device.

"SmoothwallTenantID":
- If you have a multi-tenant setup, enter the Tenant Id.
- If you don’t have a multi-tenant setup, remove this field.
- "SmoothwallSerialNumber": Your UNCL.
- "SigningCertificate": The certificate value generated at the previous step.
- "SigningCertificateKey": The other certificate value generated in Step 2.
- Select Save.
5: Turn on Always-on VPN
- Go to the Network section and select Always-on VPN, then select Edit.
- Select Qoria Filter App from the dropdown list, then select OK.
- Ensure that Do not allow users to disconnect from a VPN manually is selected.
- Select Save.
