This article applies to organisations with a Cloud setup, and those with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud).
When deploying the Cloud Filter Extension to devices with Chrome OS, you must set a policy for the user’s account, rather than the device.
Important
Devices must not be configured to use a non-transparent proxy.
Step 1: Configure the browser
In Google Admin, you must configure the browser policies.
Step 2: Install the Cloud Filter Extension
- In Google Admin, go to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions.
- In the User app settings tab, go to the Additional app settings section.
- Select Allowed types of apps and extensions and add ‘Extension’ to the text box.
- Select App and extension install sources and add ‘https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx’ to the text box.
- In the Users & browsers tab, select the Organisational Unit to which the settings will apply.
- Select the + button at the bottom right of the page.
- Select Add Chrome app or extension by ID and enter: jbldkhfglmgeihlcaeliadhipokhocnm
- Select the Smoothwall Cloud Filter item, and in the right-hand menu, for Installation policy, select Force install + pin to browser toolbar.
- In Policy for extensions:
- Select SAVE.
Step 3: Verify the installation
- Open Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser on a ChromeOS device and go to the Diagnostics page.
- Check that the Filter Mode is Mode 2 and the user is correct.
- If it shows Mode 1 or the wrong user, check your settings and reinstall the Cloud Filter Extension.
