This article applies to our On-Premise Appliance Filter and Firewall product only, not to Cloud.
When applying filtering from the On-Premise Appliance, users can bypass or override a website Block page using the following methods:
- Unblock the website
- Allow Administrators to unblock the website
- Allow end users access to the website
Unblock the website
Instead of allowing users to bypass a block temporarily, you can:
- Remove the block
- Turn on Show unblock request for the Block page so users can request access.
Allow Administrators to unblock the website
Unblock controls
You can allow Administrators to add a page to a Category used in an Allow Web Filter policy.
- Give access by selecting the Guardian unblock controls checkbox for their Administrator account.
- Switch on the Unblock controls option for your Block page.
- Administrators can manage categories by entering their username and password.
Bypass controls

User Portal
User Portal users can block or allow URLs and domains from their Filter > List page if Portal filter list management is turned on.
Allow end users access to the website
Allow override a specific number of times
Create a Web Filter Quota policy to give users access to Categories of content for a limited time.
For example, you may usually block Social Media, but allow 20 minutes of access per day. You can set a 20-minute quota with 10-minute intervals, meaning users can choose to override the Block page twice a day, for 10 minutes each time.
Once the quota is reached, the user can’t override the block and can’t access the blocked content.
Soft Block
You can create a Web Filter policy to Soft Block specific Categories. Soft Block allows users to proceed to the blocked website on the Block page.
As traffic from other domains (such as those used for adverts or content delivery) is blocked, websites may not display as expected using this method.
