The Smoothwall Filter displays a standard block page by default whenever it blocks a web request by users. You can configure the Smoothwall Filter to display a specific block page when a web request is blocked based on unsuitable or objectionable content, location or time.
Procedure
- On the GUARDIAN menu, under the Block page submenu, click Block pages.
- Under the Customize block page section, enter a meaningful Name for the block page and a descriptive Comment.
To customize the default block page manually:
- Select the Manually create contents for block page option and enter the Block message explaining the reason for the block.
- Enter the Quota message shown when a user tries to access content time limited and the Quota button label for the button that users must click to start using their quota of time to view the content.
- Enter a custom, Sub message that shows under the red block banner and the Administrator’s email address who is contacted when a request is blocked.
- Click Advanced » and then Choose File to select a Custom title image to display your logo on the block page. Select the Enable custom title image option. The default Smoothwall logo is 218 x 35 pixels. We recommend that you don't exceed this height otherwise the top of the background image might need adjusting. If the supplied background image is retained, the white space at the top might also need adjusting.
- To choose a Custom background image, click Choose File and select the image that you want to use to replace the red motif. Select the Enable custom background image option. The outlined box around the central text is 150 pixels from the top of the page. If you're replacing the default image, you must make sure that the new image has at last 150 pixels of white space at the top to make sure that it appears at the top of the outlined box. We recommend the image is 800 pixels wide, with the motif centralized within.
- Select whether to Show unblock request to display a button on the block page so that users can request that a blocked page be unblocked. Clicking the button on the block page opens a form that when completed sends the request via the email server used for alerts. If you're creating a customized block page for your tenants, you can't use this option.
- Select whether to Show bypass controls to display temporary bypass controls on the block page. These controls allow users with bypass privileges to temporarily bypass the Smoothwall Filter. When a HTTPS inspection policy is turned on and a user visits a site with an invalid certificate, the Smoothwall Filter temporary bypass doesn't work. This is because the Smoothwall Filter must review the certificate before authentication information for bypass can be detected. In this case, bypass controls are visible on the block page if turned on, but do not work. If you're creating a customized block page for your tenants, you can't use this option.
- Select the attributes to be displayed on block page and from the Show login button list, select how you want the user to log on of if you want to disable it. Valid options are SSL login, Non-SSL login (which is the default option), Disable. To take advantage of the sign-in button, Core authentication must be selected as the authentication policy. At least one directory server must also be configured on the Directories page.
- Click Save.
To import your own block page:
-
- Select the Import HTML template from zip archive option.
- Click Download the custom block page example to download the block page template.
- Update the template and save it in a zip file archive. Make sure that all files needed by the custom block page are included in the zip file, and that the archive’s location can be accessed.
- To Upload zip archive click Choose File, find the file and click Upload.
- Enter your system Administrator’s email address to receive unblock requests.
To redirect the user to an external block page:
- Select the Redirect to block page option.
- Enter the Block page URL.
- Click Save.
