You can increase the disk space for your virtual machine’s Log partition after installation using an application such as GParted.
Important
- If you want to change the Swap (/dev/sda2) or System (/dev/sda3), reinstall Smoothwall on a VM with a larger hard drive and RAM capacity to allocate more SWAP space.
- Complete this process out of hours, as the Smoothwall VM will be offline during this process.
Before you begin
- Back up your VM. Refer to your VM’s documentation for instructions.
- Back up your Smoothwall VM.
Increase the Disk Partition size
- Turn off the Smoothwall VM.
- Use the VM host tools to increase the disk to the appropriate size. Refer to your VM’s documentation for instructions.
- Adjust the partition sizes on the Smoothwall to use the new space.
- Download the GParted boot ISO, a self-contained Linux system with a GUI for the parted application.
- Use the GParted ISO to start the Smoothwall.
- Accept the default settings.
- Use GParted to resize the /dev/sda4 Log partition. Don't change the /dev/sda1 BIOS and GRUB Bootloader.
- Apply the changes and boot the Smoothwall. The Smoothwall will now detect the new space on the log partition.
