This article applies to our On-Premise Appliance Filter and Firewall product only, not to Cloud.
Using the latest Blocklist ensures your Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance or Cloud Filter blocks the most up-to-date list of undesirable, inappropriate and objectionable content.
Important
- You must have the Guardian module installed to see your Blocklist subscription information.
- If you use a Firewall system other than Smoothwall, you must allow these domains to be able to download Blocklist updates.
Blocklist update frequency
We release an updated Blocklist every night, which your Smoothwall automatically installs.
When urgent issues arise, we may release an additional Blocklist update during the day. To install this update manually:
- Go to System > Maintenance > Licenses.
- In the Subscriptions > Blocklist section, select Update.
If you don’t install it manually, Smoothwall automatically installs the updated Blocklist within an hour.
Check you’re using the latest Blocklist
To check your licence and Blocklist version, go to System > Maintenance > Licenses. In the Blocklist subscription section, check:
- Latest release date
- Subscription expires date
- Current Version
If you see ‘Up to date’ in green, then the Ver: number, you’re using the latest Blocklist.
If you see ‘Out of date’ in red and a field for Latest Version, you’re using an older Blocklist.
- To install the most recent changes to the Blocklist, select Update.
- If updating doesn’t resolve the issue or you need to reinstall the full Blocklist, select Download.
Expiry warnings for your Blocklist
Your Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance displays an expiry warning on all pages when your Blocklist is out of date: ‘Your blocklist is out of date. Check System > Maintenance > Licences for information on your current blocklist status and subscription.’
Cloud Filter doesn’t show a warning, but if your licence has expired, your Blocklist will likely be out of date. See Smoothwall product licences and expiry.
