Using the latest Blocklist ensures your Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance or Cloud Filter (via the Agents and Extensions) blocks the most up-to-date list of undesirable, inappropriate and objectionable content.
Important
If you use a Firewall other than Smoothwall Appliance, you must allow these domains to be able to download Blocklist updates.
Cloud Filter
Blocklist updates
Cloud Filter (via the Agents and Extensions) automatically applies new Blocklist versions as soon as we release them, either every night or during the day for urgent issues.
Expiry warnings
Cloud Filter and devices don’t show a warning if your Blocklist is out of date. However, if your licence has expired, your Blocklist will be out of date. See Smoothwall product licences and expiry.
On-Premise Appliance
Note
You must have the Guardian module installed to see your Blocklist subscription information.
Blocklist update frequency
We release an updated Blocklist every night, which your Smoothwall Appliance automatically installs.
When urgent issues arise, we may release an additional Blocklist update during the day. To install this update manually:
- Go to System > Maintenance > Licenses.
- In the Subscriptions > Blocklist section, select Update.
If you don’t install it manually, Smoothwall Appliance automatically installs the updated Blocklist within an hour.
Expiry warnings
Your Smoothwall Appliance displays an expiry warning on all pages when your Blocklist is out of date: ‘Your blocklist is out of date. Check System > Maintenance > Licences for information on your current blocklist status and subscription.’
Check you’re using the latest Blocklist
Go to System > Maintenance > Licenses.
In the Subscriptions > Blocklist section, check:
- Latest release date
- Subscription expires date
- Current Version
If you see ‘Up to date’ in green, then the Ver: number, you’re using the latest Blocklist.
If you see ‘Out of date’ in red and a field for Latest Version, you’re using an older Blocklist.
- To install the most recent changes to the Blocklist, select Update.
- If updating doesn’t resolve the issue or you need to reinstall the full Blocklist, select Download.
