A Primer on Location Objects
The Location object provides simple, named objects that reference network locations which may be used in Guardian or Web Proxy Authentication Policies in the Where element of the policy. In this manner, Web Filter policies can be created to only be applied to certain machines or subnets, or Web Proxy Authentication policies can be created to apply different authentication methods to different network locations, on both transparent and non-transparent proxies.
Network locations can be defined as:
- A single IP address, i.e. 192.168.1.1
- A range of IP addresses, i.e. 192.168.1.1-192.1658.1.100
- A subnet in CIDR notation, i.e. 192.168.1.0/24
- A device hostname, i.e. pc1-room1.domain.local
NOTE: Use of hostnames requires a reverse-lookup address be added to the 'Domain' list against the site's internal DNS server listed at Network > Configuration > DNS - Conditional DNS Forwarders.
