Game consoles use a large number of ports to connect to online services. By default, Smoothwall blocks these ports. This article explains how to allow access to game consoles.
Step 1: Web Filter Policies
Create a Web Filter policy to Allow the game console’s category (for example, the Xbox category).
Step 2: Firewall rules
-
Create a Service Object for TCP&UDP and add the ports outlined in the game console provider’s documentation:
- Create a Firewall Rule to Accept communication from items in the Service Object.
Step 3: Authentication Exceptions
To prevent the game console from spamming requests to a login page, add an authentication exception for the game console's category.
Step 4: HTTPS Inspection
Because you can’t install the Smoothwall certificate onto game consoles, you need to bypass HTTPS inspection for the game console to work on your network. Create a HTTPS Inspection policy to Do not inspect the game console’s category.
