This article applies to organisations with an On-Premise setup, and those with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud).
Reinstalling is the quickest way to get a Failover Smoothwall Appliance running again, while preserving your current settings and logs. The Smoothwall Support Team may ask you to complete the steps in this article.
To reinstall a Main Smoothwall Appliance, use the instructions in Reinstall Smoothwall Appliance Hardware or Virtual Machine instead.
Step 1: Disconnect the networks
- Disconnect all network cables from the Failover Smoothwall Appliance.
- Physically connect the Heartbeat interface on the Main Smoothwall Appliance to the Heartbeat interface on the Failover Smoothwall Appliance.
Step 2: Download the file
- Sign in to your Main Smoothwall Appliance and go to System > Hardware > Failover.
- In the Networking section, select Generate failover setup archive.
- Save the file to a FAT32-formatted USB drive.
Step 3: Install the archive file
- Insert the USB drive into the Failover Smoothwall Appliance.
- Sign in to the command line terminal using the root user and password.
- Enter ‘setup’ and press Enter.
- Select Restore configuration and press Enter.
- Select the attached USB device from the list and press Enter.
Note
If your USB device is not detected, select Refresh Devices to remount any devices.
- Select the archive file and press Enter.
- When prompted, press Enter to reboot the Failover Smoothwall Appliance. After rebooting, it will enter standby mode.
Note
If you see the Choose a configuration option screen instead, press Esc, then Enter to reboot the Failover Smoothwall Appliance.
Step 4: Reconnect the networks
- Reconnect the remaining network cables to the Failover Smoothwall Appliance.
- Test that the Failover Smoothwall Appliance works.
