As a relay, the Smoothwall Appliance listens for DHCP requests on the defined interfaces and forwards them to your DHCP servers. This allows your remote server across your LAN to perform DHCP allocation.
To use your Smoothwall Appliance as a DHCP Server to automatically allocate IP addresses and other network settings to connected clients, see Set up Smoothwall Appliance as a DHCP Server .
Note
DHCP functionality supports up to 20 Bridge, Bonding, or VLAN interfaces.
Step 1: Turn on Relay mode
- Go to Services > DHCP > Global.
- In the Global settings section, select the Enabled checkbox.
- Select Relay (forwarding proxy).
- To generate logs you can report on from Reports > Logs > System under the DHCP server section, ensure the Enable logging checkbox is selected.
- In the Interfaces section, select the interfaces that receive DHCP traffic from clients and the interface to which the Smoothwall Appliance relays traffic.

- Select Save.
Step 2: Configure your DHCP relay settings
