By default, your Smoothwall Appliance acts as a web proxy, directing traffic to itself for filtering. You can configure your web proxy from the Settings page.
Important
Complete these steps out of hours, as you need to restart the web proxy service to implement any changes. Restarting can take up to two minutes, during which time web access is unavailable.
Turn web proxy on or off
- Go to Web Proxy > Web Proxy > Settings.
- In the Global option section, select Disable to turn web proxy off, or Enable to turn it back on.
- Save your changes:
- If you are on Leeds release or earlier, select Save and restart with cleared cache to clear certificates, images, and multimedia from the web proxy cache to speed up browsing.
- If you are on Maiden, select Save and restart, as there’s no cache to clear.
- Select Save:
- You’ll see a Warning banner.
- Select Restart proxy to apply the changes.
Check proxy settings
In the Available proxy settings section, you can see:
- Automatic configuration script address for use with PAC scripts.
- Manual web browser proxy settings.
