You can restore your system settings from a previous backup point using Settings Archives. You can create Settings Archives manually when needed or on a schedule.
Go to System > Maintenance > Archives. You’ll see a table of all past Settings Archives, along with their sizes and the dates they were taken.
Download a Settings Archive
Select a checkbox in the Mark column, then select Download. You can only download one at a time.
Delete Settings Archives
Select one or multiple checkboxes in the Mark column, then select Delete.
Upload and restore Settings Archives
Before you begin
- Smoothwall Appliance only restores settings for modules that were installed when you created the Settings Archive and are installed when you restore the Settings Archive. Install all modules you need to use before restoring the Settings Archive.
- Decide whether you want to use the filtering configuration from the Settings Archive or Cloud Filter. Make a note of key settings so you can edit them to match your requirements again after restoring.
Upload a Settings Archive
Go to the Upload heading. Enter a name, select the file, then select Upload.
Restore a Settings Archive
- Check if you have Settings Archives to restore. If not, follow the steps above to upload a Settings Archive.
- Select a checkbox in the Mark column to select the Settings Archive.
- Select Restore below the Settings Archives.
- A new section will appear with the name of the Settings Archive.
- Select the checkboxes for each area of Smoothwall Appliance settings included in the Settings Archive to apply, or select the checkbox next to All.
- Select Restore below the table.
- The configuration will be applied, which can take a few minutes. Once complete, your page will refresh, and you’ll see a banner at the top of every page that says: ‘ Warning: The configuration on this server has changed and the server should be rebooted at the first opportunity.’
- If you have a Hybrid setup, decide whether to apply filtering settings from the Settings Archive or Cloud Filter:
- To use the configuration from the Settings Archive, sign out of the Admin UI, sign in again, and then reboot your Smoothwall Appliance. This syncs the settings to Cloud Filter (excluding Content Modifications and settings only in the On-Premise Appliance, such as Firewall rules).
- To use the configuration from Cloud Filter, select the rebooted link in the banner to go to the Shutdown page and reboot your Smoothwall Appliance.
- Sign back in to the Admin UI.
- Edit any settings as needed. If you are missing settings for modules, install all modules you need to use, then restore the Settings Archive again.
