Smoothwall provides a category which contains URLs used by Google Drive. This category enables administrators to quickly allow access to Google Drive, and also aims to improve the accuracy of web traffic reports.
Placing this category in an Allow policy will allow users to visit and use Google Drive, as well as the Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides applications.
To allow the category, navigate to 'Guardian > Web Filter > Policy wizard' and create a new policy with the following:
- Who Everyone*
- What Google Drive
- Where Everywhere*
- When Always*
- Action Allow
* Change as appropriate
Note that the newly created policy should be placed above any blocking policies for the 'File Hosting' category.
If you require access to the "Backup & Sync" application provided by Google you will also need to perform the following steps:
- Navigate to 'Guardian > Policy Objects > Categories', expand the 'Standard Categories' section, scroll down to the 'Google Drive' category, and select the 'Edit' button on the right hand side.
- Under the Domain/URL filtering section add the following domains:
googleapis.com
accounts.google.com - Finally, you will need to add the category to a 'Do Not Inspect' policy in your HTTPS Inspection policy table. To do so, navigate to 'Guardian > HTTPS Inspection > Policy Wizard' and enter the following:
Who Everyone*
What Google Drive
Where Everywhere*
When Always*
Action Do Not Inspect
* Change as appropriate
