Problem
A system with the Smoothwall IDex client installed can't connect or authenticate the Outlook client.
Issue
The Outlook client has an option for "Modern Authentication" that doesn't work with the Smoothwall IDex client currently.
Solution
To get the Outlook client authenticating correctly when using the Smoothwall IDex client, you need to turn off the modern authentication method. See this Microsoft thread, Modern Authentication on Outlook 2016 keeps on giving popup to enter user credentials to contact synchronizer.
To turn off the modern authentication on a device, set the following registry keys:
