If you haven't set up a group wide policy with the provisioning file, have incorrect information in the provisioning file or have not pointed it to the correct organizational unit during setup, the Chrome extension can't get the Unified Client customer serial number and apply your web filtering policies.
If you see the red square with a white exclamation mark, there is an issue. You can see what the issue is by placing your mouse cursor over the Chrome extension in the browser and checking what the error message says.
Provisioning Error Messages:
Message | Description |
No customer serial provided! | You either don't have a provisioning file at all or the provisioning file doesn't have the correct customer serial. |
Invalid prefix 'XXXX', expected 'UNCL' | Where XXXX is the prefix of the customer serial number in the provisioning file. All customer serials must start with UNCL. |
Invalid length NN, expected 16 | Where NN is the length of the customer serial number in the provisioning file. All customer serials must be 16 characters long. |
Invalid serial checksum | Indicates that the customer serial number in the provisioning file wasn't generated by Smoothwall. Therefore, the customer serial is invalid. |
Procedure
- Check that you have a provisioning policy that has the provisioning file, with the correct customer serial details, assigned to the correct organizational unit.
- If you don't have a provisioning policy with the provisioning file, create the provisioning policy by following the steps in this article: Installing the Smoothwall Cloud Filter Extension for Chromebooks Using Google Administration Portal.
After creating your provisioning policy, Google should apply it automatically but if not, try restarting the device.
