The Smoothwall Category Test Tool lets you check whether websites are allowed or blocked for different blocklist categories without needing to manually check your policies for Smoothwall Cloud Filter or On-Premise Appliance.
Important
This feature is supported for devices filtered by On-Premise Appliance or Cloud Filter Extension. When using Smoothwall Browser or Android Filter App, the categories show as allowed, even when blocked on devices.
Before you begin
If you use the On-Premise Appliance to filter in addition to or instead of the Cloud Extension, you must use HTTPS inspection so that Smoothwall can analyse websites' full URLs, headers, and content.
Ensure you have HTTPS Inspection Policies to Decrypt and Inspect Everything apart from trusted sites.
Using the Overview
- Use a device that is currently filtered by On-Premise Appliance or Cloud Filter Extension.
- Open a browser.
- Go to http://test.mysmoothwall.net.
- Scroll down to view the list of categories. You can see whether each is blocked or allowed.

Check content for individual categories
- Use a device that is currently filtered by On-Premise Appliance or Cloud Filter Extension.
- Open a browser.
- Open the Categories and Signatures list.
- Select the Test URL icon for the category you want to test.
- If there is a Block policy in place that covers this device, you will see the block page.
- If the page is not blocked, you will see the test.mysmoothwall.net page.
