The SMTP relay Antispam feature no longer filters out spam emails. Log entries for the Antispam service shows errors like this:
Jan 12 11:10:35 hostname Anti-spam service Attempt at retrieving rules failed (1007)
Jan 12 11:10:35 hostname Anti-spam service Couldn't init MailShell (1007)
This is because late in 2018 the Antispam service was discontinued and the email SMTP relay module was deprecated by Smoothwall.
However, in place of this, Smoothwall now offers the use of Mailroute Antispam services. An announcement was sent to notify customers but some customers might have not received this notification for various reasons.
To reinstate the Antispam scanning services on incoming mails, please contact Smoothwall support, who will assist you in configuring MailRoute to perform Antispam scanning on the incoming SMTP mails.
When you contact Smoothwall support please have the following information ready:
- Mail domain(s)
- MX record host name(s)
- Contact email address for the mail administrator(s)
- Internal LAN IP of your SMTP mail server.
The process is simple and only takes a couple of minutes to set up. After which, the Anti-Spam scanning will be restored.
