Allow access for WebSockets

Using the WebSocket API (WebSockets), you can send messages to a server and receive responses without polling the server for a reply. To allow WebSockets to work, you must exempt it from HTTPS inspection.

  1. Create a Custom Category.
  2. Add trusted domain or subdomain sources that use WebSockets to the Domain/URL filtering section.
  3. If the domain or subdomain is not static, use a URL pattern instead. Contact Smoothwall Support for help with configuring this.
  4. Create a HTTPS Inspection Policy for the category to Do not inspect.
  5. Move this policy above any HTTPS Inspection Policies that Decrypt and Inspect everything.
