Problem
Can you run a web filter report and limit the source data to a subnet or a range of IP addresses?
Solution: Use locations
When creating a custom report and you add a section from the Guardian3 folder, you can add a location parameter. You can do this by using the location parameter in the selected report section, within the Options tab. Click Advanced to expand the parameter area. The location field is the 4th option down in the advanced section. For this example screenshot, we have entered "WiFi subnet" for the location.
You can define locations by going to the Guardian menu, under the Policy object submenu and clicking Locations.
Locations can contain subnets, single IP addresses, ranges of IP addresses and host names. If a location containing host names is used, make sure that:
- Host names are full host and domain name in the location object.
- Log client host names is set to log:
- On the WEB PROXY menu, under the Web proxy submenu, click Settings.
- Click Advanced and under the Logging options section, for Client hostnames, select Log. Don't select this if reverse lookup is not configured on your internal DNS servers.
The reporting engine matches the content of a location with log entries on IP address and host name, so you can report on a newly created location and see data from before the location was defined.
