This article applies to organisations with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud), as well as On-Premise only and Cloud only setups.
Vimeo is part of the Streaming Media category and is automatically blocked by the Core Blocked Content Web Filter policy. You can’t block Vimeo channels, so you may want to allow access to specific videos only.
On-Premise Appliance
Before you begin
As Vimeo defaults to HTTPS, you must turn on HTTPS Decrypt and Inspect policy for Vimeo to block content.
Allow specific videos
- Create a Custom category for the Vimeo videos you want to allow.
- In the Domain/URL filtering section, enter:
- player-telemetry.vimeo.com
- vimeocdn.com
- In the Advanced > Video ID filtering section, enter the video IDs (the 9-digit number at the end of the URL) for the Vimeo videos you want to allow.
- Set up a Web Filter policy for your Custom Category with Allow as the Action.
- Order this Allow policy above your Block policy for Core Blocked Content.
Allow Vimeo
- Set up a Web Filter policy for Vimeo, with Allow as the Action.
- Order this Allow policy above your Block policy for Core Blocked Content.
Allow Vimeo but block specific videos
- Set up a Web Filter policy for Vimeo, with Allow as the Action.
- Create a Custom category for Vimeo videos you want to block.
- In the Advanced > Video ID filtering section, enter the video IDs (the 9-digit number at the end of the URL) for the Vimeo videos you want to allow.
- Set up a Web Filter policy for your custom category with Block as the Action.
- Order your policies from top to bottom:
- Block Vimeo videos
- Allow for Vimeo
- Block Core Blocked Content
Time quota
You can set a Time quota to limit usage to a specific amount of time using On Premise Appliance.
Important
This feature is not available for Cloud Filter.
Time quota for all Vimeo videos
Set up a Web Filter policy for Vimeo, with Limit to Quota as the Action.
Time quota for specific Vimeo videos
- In a Custom Category, go to Advanced > Video ID filtering and add the Vimeo videos to time quota.
- Set up a Web Filter policy for your custom category with Limit to Quota as the Action.
- Order your Time Quota policy above your Block policy for Core Blocked Content.
Cloud Filter
Important
Devices must be on Cloud Filter Extension Version 3.1.0 or higher for video filtering.
