You can allow access to the Dropbox desktop app or browser website.
Step 1: Create a Web Filter Policy
- Create a Web Filter Policy for the Dropbox category, with Allow as the Action.
- Move this policy above any policies that block file and image hosting.
Step 2: Create a HTTPS Inspection Policy
Skip this step if you use Cloud Filter to apply Web Filter Policies.
If you use On-Premise Appliance to apply Web Filter Policies, create a HTTPS Inspection policy for Dropbox:
- To allow access to the website and desktop app, set your policy to Validate certificate only. In this scenario:
- Smoothwall can’t fully analyse content, so it may not generate Safeguarding Alerts or apply Web Filter Policies that block access.
- Users can share, download and upload files.
- To block sharing, downloads and uploads on the website, set your policy to Decrypt and Inspect. Note that in this scenario, the desktop app won’t work.
(Optional) Block Sharing, Downloads and Uploads
You can allow access to the Dropbox website while blocking sharing, downloads and uploads.
Important
You can only block these features for the website, not for the desktop app.
