Stop users turning Parental Guidance off for BBC iPlayer or ITV Player

You can use the Enforce the Parental Guidance Lock Content Modification policies to block mature content on BBC iPlayer and ITV player. These turn on BBC iPlayer or ITV Player Parental Guidance lock, even if the user tries to turn it off.

Content Modification is not available for 4oD.

Before you begin

Step 1: Set up HTTPS Inspection

Create a HTTPS Inspection Policy and Decrypt and Inspect the BBC iPlayer or ITV Player category.

Step 2: Create an Allow policy

Ensure you have set up a Web Filter policy to Allow the BBC iPlayer or ITV Player category.

Make sure this policy is above the Core Blocked Content policy.

Create a Content Modification policy

Go to Guardian > Content Modification > Policy wizard to create a new content modification policy.

1. In the Who section, select who the policy applies to. Select either:
   • Everyone to apply to all users
   • One or more User Groups
   • The single user icon and enter a username (not available in Cloud Filter)

2. In the What section, select either:
   • BBC iPlayer if you will be using BBC iPlayer - Enforce Parental Guidance Lock.
   • ITV Player if you will be using ITV Player - Enforce Parental Guidance Lock.

3. In the Where section, select where the policy should apply. Select either:
   • Everywhere
   • One or more network locations (IP or range of IPs)

4. In the When section, select when the policy should apply from your list of Time slots.

5. In the Action section, select Apply, and one of these items:
   • BBC iPlayer - Enforce Parental Guidance Lock
   • ITV Player - Enforce Parental Guidance Lock

Make sure Enable policy is selected, then select Confirm.

Check your Content Modification has applied

1. Log into a device on your network.
2. Try to access a video that you know has a rating.
3. Users will not be able to play videos that have a guidance rating.
