Stop users turning Parental Guidance off for BBC iPlayer or ITV Player

Use the Enforce the Parental Guidance Lock Content Modification policies to block mature content on BBC iPlayer and ITV player. These policies turn on BBC iPlayer or ITV Player Parental Guidance lock, even if the user tries to turn it off.

  Note

  • Smoothwall is not responsible for BBC or ITV video ratings. If you see a video with an incorrect rating, contact the BBC or ITV.
  • Content Modification is unavailable for 4oD.

Before you begin

Step 1: Decide which platform to use

  Important

Both Content Modifications are supported for devices filtered using Cloud Filter Extension, but not Smoothwall Browser or Android Filter App.

 

Step 2: Set up HTTPS Inspection

Check if you will be using the On-Premise Appliance to apply Content Modification and filtering in addition to or instead of the Cloud Extension.

  • If you will be, ensure you have a HTTPS Inspection Policy to Decrypt and Inspect the Everything category.
  • If this is not possible, use the BBC iPlayer or ITV Player category.

Step 3: Create an Allow policy

Set up a Web Filter policy to Allow the BBC iPlayer or ITV Player category. Position this policy above the Core Blocked Content policy.

Create a Content Modification policy

Create a content modification policy.

On-Premise Appliance:

  1. Set What to BBC iPlayer.
  2. Select Apply BBC iPlayer - Enforce Parental Guidance Lock as the Action.

Cloud Filter:

  1. Go to the Video Streaming tab.
  2. Toggle either BBC iPlayer - Enforce parental guidance lock or ITV Player - Enforce parental guidance lock to On.
  3. Configure the necessary fields.

Check your Content Modification has been applied

  1. Log into a device on your network.
  2. Try to access a video that you know has a rating.
  3. Users will not be able to play videos that have a guidance rating.
