This article shows you how to get videos on the History Channel to play correctly through the Smoothwall Filter. Due to the History Channel having adverts before the start of their videos, blocking the Advert category stops some of the videos from loading.
Procedure
There are two methods which enable videos to play without issue. The first method is to simply allow the Adverts category. The second method, and the most difficult/time consuming method, is to monitor the real-time web filter logs for all the Domains/URLs that the History channel uses for its adverts.
Method 1
Create an allow web filter policy with these settings, see Creating web filter policies:
- Who: "Everyone, or the relevant user or groups to apply this policy to."
- What: "Adverts"
- Where: "Everywhere, or the relevant location to apply this policy to."
- When: "Always, or the relevant time slot to apply this policy to."
- Action: "Allow"
Method 2
- Look at the real-time web filter report and copy the advert domains that are getting blocked when you try to play a video, see Monitoring user activity.
- Create a custom category with these settings, see Creating custom categories.
- Name: "History Channel Adverts"
- Domain/URL filtering: "The list of domains that you copied from the report."
- Create an allow web filter policy with these settings, see Creating web filter policies:
- Who: "Everyone, or the relevant user or groups to apply this policy to."
- What: "History Channel Adverts"
- Where: "Everywhere, or the relevant location to apply this policy to."
- When: "Always, or the relevant time slot to apply this policy to."
- Action: "Allow"
