Creating a Category to Match All Google Sites

If you would like to use Google sites in rules such as block, but not include categories such as Web Search follow this procedure.

Procedure

1. Create a custom category, see our help topic, Creating custom categories.
2. From the Manage categories section, configure a meaningful Name, for example, Google Sites.
3. Click Advanced.
4. Scroll down to URL patterns.
5. Add the following:
   • ^https?://(?:[^/]*\.)?google\.\w{1,3}(?:\.\w{1,3})?
6. Click Save.

This category can now be used in policies, such as to exclude Google from your HTTPS inspection rules. For more information see our help topic, Creating web filter policies.
