Source Network Address Translation (NAT) rules determine how the Smoothwall Appliance routes traffic between networks (such as routing traffic to the Internet). This applies to all traffic that passes through the Smoothwall Appliance, as well as HTTP/HTTPS traffic proxied by the Smoothwall Appliance when you have turned on IP Spoofing.
When your organisation starts using your Smoothwall Appliance, you’ll have these default Source NAT rules:
- Allow internal > internal: Smoothwall Appliance preserves the original source IP for all traffic routed to Internal networks, without SNAT. Keep this rule at the top of your list of rules.
- Default rule: All other traffic preserves the original source IP with SNAT.
You can edit your Source NAT rules to suit your organisation’s needs.
