Microsoft has deprecated the following New Technology LAN Manager (NTLM) components:
- Negotiate Kerberos/NTLM, including Terminal Services compatibility mode and via Redirect
- NTLM identification, including Terminal Services compatibility mode and via Redirect
- NTLM authentication, including Terminal Services compatibility mode and via Redirect
- Global Proxy using NTLM
As of June 2025, Smoothwall has also deprecated NTLM, which means:
- We no longer provide documentation or training for setting up NTLM. Contact Smoothall Support if you need help with NTLM authentication.
- We can’t guarantee NTLM authentication will continue to work if you already have it set up, and we will not fix any product issues you may encounter.
If your organisation uses NTLM, take action to prevent disruption when Microsoft ceases support for NTLM:
- If you use one of the NTLM Authentication methods, switch to a different Authentication Method. We recommend IDex.
- If you use Global Proxy using NTLM, switch to a different Authentication Method or use Cloud Filter.
