This article applies to our On-Premise Appliance Filter and Firewall product only, not to Cloud.

This article lists our built-in Report templates, which you can select when generating a report.

We’ve created these templates as a starting point to help quickly create reports on common topics. You can edit the report configuration and setup to fine-tune the data included.
If none of these reports suit your needs, you can create a Custom Report.

Note

If multiple users access the same client device, you can’t use the IP address to identify a user.

Filter reports

Amount of time an IP address spent browsing sites in a category Amount of time a user spent browsing sites in a category	Time spent browsing	The report provides a graphical representation of the data. To run the report for a specific category, IP address, or user (depending on the report selected), select Advanced and enter into the Client IP or Username field. Also, enter the Category.
Amount of time an IP address spent browsing a URL Amount of time a user spent browsing a URL	Time spent browsing	The report provides a graphical representation of the data. To run the report for a specific URL, IP address, or user (depending on the report selected), select Advanced and enter into the Client IP or Username field. Also, enter the URL.
Daily user comparison Daily category comparison Daily domain comparison	Comparison reports	Lists the top 50 users, categories or domains accessed today, in descending order, plus their relative position for yesterday.
Web filter request statistics	System	Statistical information about the total requests, blocked requests and percentage blocked.
Web filter viruses detected	System	A table of IP, Username, URL and viruses found.
Web filter statistics	System	Statistical information about the performance of the HTTP proxy service, and web content filter, including: Web cache graphs Web cache statistics Median service times for the last five minutes Median service times for the last 60 minutes The last time the blocklists were installed or updated
Top users using banned search terms	Top reports	Lists the top 20 users who have used banned search terms or phrases.
Top search terms	Top reports	Lists the top 20 most frequently searched for terms or phrases.
Top blocked domains by hits	Top reports	Lists the top 20 blocked domains for the specified time period. Smoothwall shows the data as a graph and a pie chart. By selecting a domain, you can focus on that domain specifically.
Top blocked users by hits	Top reports	Lists the top 20 blocked users for the specified time period. Smoothwall shows the data as a graph. By selecting a username, you can focus on that user specifically.
Top client IPs by hits and bandwidth Top domains by hits and bandwidth Top categories by hits and bandwidth Top users by hits and bandwidth	Top reports	The report provides a graphical representation of the top 20 busiest IP addresses, requested domains, frequently accessed categories or users by individual webpage visits, listed according to the amount of bandwidth used. By selecting an IP address, domain, category or username, you can focus on that item. Each of these reports has a ‘With options’ version, which allows you to filter the report with these fields by selecting Advanced: Display top: The number of items to display. Select from 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, or 500. Category: Only report on those categories visited. Client IP: Only report on web traffic originating from that IP address. Username: Only report on that user’s traffic. Group: Only report on members of that group. Exclude adverts: Ignores hits and bandwidth used by adverts received. URL: Only report on visits to this URL. Denied: Only report where browsing was blocked due to URL or search term filtering. Denied POST: Only report where a message or similar upload was blocked due to banned words or phrases.
Complete user audit trail Complete IP address audit trail	User analysis	Statistical information on all activities, including web browsing and IM activity. To run the report for a specific user or IP address (depending on the report chosen), select Advanced and enter the username in the Username field or the IP address in the Client IP field.
Suspicious web searches for all users excluding search suggestions	User analysis	Lists the most recent blocked search terms used, detailing: The IP address of the location where the search request was made. The Search domain name of the search engine used, displayed in the following format: <domain_name> (<search_engine_if_known>). For example, www.google.com (Google). The Search phrase or term used. Tip Search engines use predictive search suggestions, which can inflate the Search terms log, so these are excluded from the report. For example, a search for "football clubs" might include "f", "fo", "foo", "foot" and similar partial searches.
Top search terms and the searches they were used in for a specific user	User analysis	Lists the top 50 search terms or phrases, excluding common words, used by a specific user. The report also shows the searches in which the terms were used. To run the report for a specific user, select Advanced and enter the username in the Username field.
Time spent browsing for a specific user Bandwidth usage by a specific user	User analysis	The report provides a graphical representation of the data. By selecting a username, you can focus on that user specifically. To run the report for a specific user, select Advanced and enter the username in the Username field.
All blocked activity for a specific user	User analysis	Lists the IP address, blocked URL, and corresponding category. The report excludes Blocked adverts from the users’ statistics. To run the report for a specific user, select Advanced and enter the username in the Username field.
Web searches for a specific user	User analysis	Lists the most recent search requests made by a specific user, detailing: The IP address of the location where the search request was made. The Search domain name of the search engine used, displayed in the following format: <domain_name> (<search_engine_if_known>). For example, www.google.com (Google). The Search phrase or term used. The Category of the request.
Executive summary of activity of a specific IP address Executive summary for a user	Executive summary	The report provides a graphical representation of: Number of hits per day Number of hits per hour Total time browsing Top search terms or phrases Categories browsed To run the report for a specific IP address or user (depending on the report selected), select Advanced and enter into the Client IP or Username field.
Executive summary for all group activity	Executive summary	The report provides a graphical representation of the number of hits from the top ten groups with the most activity. The categories browsed by each group are also listed.

System reports

These reports are in the System folder by default.

Report	Used for
Control page template	Displays control information about your Smoothwall installation, including: Smoothwall updates Tip of the day Support information, such as serial number and license expiry dates.
Disk information	Displays the status of the hard drive in your Smoothwall, including information on the: Disk Processor Memory Disk space, including how much space is taken by the system installation and log files.
Authentication cache	Displays a list of users, and their state within the cache, during a specific date range.
Extract Personnel Data	Extracts all system logs containing the entered username or email address. To use this report, including instructions on how to redact personal data, contact Smoothwall Support.
System information	Displays information about your Smoothwall installation, including: Summary of up-time The ports that are in use System logs for: Authentication service (auth) Kernel (kernel) System logs (Smoothwall) SSH (ssh) Loaded kernel modules Information about any installed Universal Power Supplies (UPS) Disk information Processor information Memory information Hard disk drive information The running status of system services Updates for your Smoothwall
Portal users logged in status	Shows a list of portal users and their current logged in status. For further details, See who has accessed the User Portal.
Summary page template	See Summary Report.
Updates	Shows any available system updates and when the blocklist was last updated.

Firewall and networking reports

These reports are in the Firewall and networking folder by default.

Report	Used for
Interfaces and IP addresses	Displays all external, internal, and VPN interfaces, including connection details and DHCP leases. Information for each interface is grouped into tables for Network Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and Network routing.
Connection details and traffic statistics Important The Bandwidth module is not available in Maiden, so you won’t see this report.	Provides statistical information for inbound and outbound traffic on each interface. The report splits information into tables for Interface and host bandwidth usage and Per IP address statistics.
Application bandwidth statistics	See Application Bandwidth Statistics.
VPN status and history	Shows the VPN connection status and history for each tunnel type: IPSec L2TP road warriors (Not in Maiden) SSL road warriors (Not in Maiden)

Malware and mailbox email reports

Important

The Anti-Spam module is not available in Maiden, so you won’t see the Email folder in Reports, and can’t create these reports.

Report	Used for
Malware Incl last 24 hours	The report provides a graphical representation of the number of times viruses and malware were attempted to be sent. The top viruses detected are also listed. To run the report for a specific domain instead of all domains, select Advanced and choose the domain from the Filter by domain field.
Estimated cost of Spam and Malware	Shows the estimated return on investment of dealing with the quantity of spam and malware before it was rejected. The top originating recipients and domains are also listed.
Incoming email summary incl last 24 hours Outgoing email summary incl last 24 hours	The report provides a graphical representation of the number of emails, the classification of the email, and the bandwidth used per day. Email classifications are: Accepted Spam Virus To run the report for a specific domain instead of all domains, select Advanced and choose the domain from the Filter by domain field.
Mailbox activity	A list of emails received by mailboxes but redirected to the antispam quarantine, and the quarantine size, in megabytes. The top ten quarantined users are also displayed, broken down: By messages quarantined By messages released By message size

Archive reports

The Archive folder contains report templates that have been replaced or are no longer useful.

Smoothwall does not provide documentation or training on using these reports. If you are considering using them, please contact Smoothall Support. You can also contact your Customer Success Manager to discuss moving to Cloud Reports.
