This article lists our built-in Report templates, which you can select when generating a report.
- We’ve created these templates as a starting point to help quickly create reports on common topics. You can edit the report configuration and setup to fine-tune the data included.
- If none of these reports suit your needs, you can create a Custom Report.
Note
If multiple users access the same client device, you can’t use the IP address to identify a user.
Filter reports

Top users using banned search terms | Top reports | Lists the top 20 users who have used banned search terms or phrases. |

Top blocked domains by hits | Top reports |
Lists the top 20 blocked domains for the specified time period. Smoothwall shows the data as a graph and a pie chart. By selecting a domain, you can focus on that domain specifically. |

Lists the top 20 blocked users for the specified time period. Smoothwall shows the data as a graph. By selecting a username, you can focus on that user specifically. |

Top reports |
The report provides a graphical representation of the top 20 busiest IP addresses, requested domains, frequently accessed categories or users by individual webpage visits, listed according to the amount of bandwidth used. By selecting an IP address, domain, category or username, you can focus on that item. Each of these reports has a ‘With options’ version, which allows you to filter the report with these fields by selecting Advanced:

Statistical information on all activities, including web browsing and IM activity. To run the report for a specific user or IP address (depending on the report chosen), select Advanced and enter the username in the Username field or the IP address in the Client IP field. |
Suspicious web searches for all users excluding search suggestions | User analysis | Lists the most recent blocked search terms used, detailing:
Tip Search engines use predictive search suggestions, which can inflate the Search terms log, so these are excluded from the report. For example, a search for "football clubs" might include "f", "fo", "foo", "foot" and similar partial searches. |
Top search terms and the searches they were used in for a specific user | User analysis |
Lists the top 50 search terms or phrases, excluding common words, used by a specific user. The report also shows the searches in which the terms were used. To run the report for a specific user, select Advanced and enter the username in the Username field. |

These reports are in the System folder by default.

Authentication cache | Displays a list of users, and their state within the cache, during a specific date range. |
Extract Personnel Data | Extracts all system logs containing the entered username or email address. To use this report, including instructions on how to redact personal data, contact Smoothwall Support. |
System information | Displays information about your Smoothwall installation, including:

Portal users logged in status | Shows a list of portal users and their current logged in status. For further details, See who has accessed the User Portal. |
Summary page template | See Summary Report. |
Updates | Shows any available system updates and when the blocklist was last updated. |
Firewall and networking reports
These reports are in the Firewall and networking folder by default.

Interfaces and IP addresses | Displays all external, internal, and VPN interfaces, including connection details and DHCP leases. Information for each interface is grouped into tables for Network Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and Network routing. |
Connection details and traffic statistics Important The Bandwidth module is not available in Maiden, so you won’t see this report. |
Provides statistical information for inbound and outbound traffic on each interface. The report splits information into tables for Interface and host bandwidth usage and Per IP address statistics. |

VPN status and history | Shows the VPN connection status and history for each tunnel type:

Malware and mailbox email reports
Important
The Anti-Spam module is not available in Maiden, so you won’t see the Email folder in Reports, and can’t create these reports.

The report provides a graphical representation of the number of times viruses and malware were attempted to be sent. The top viruses detected are also listed. To run the report for a specific domain instead of all domains, select Advanced and choose the domain from the Filter by domain field. |
Estimated cost of Spam and Malware | Shows the estimated return on investment of dealing with the quantity of spam and malware before it was rejected. The top originating recipients and domains are also listed. |

The report provides a graphical representation of the number of emails, the classification of the email, and the bandwidth used per day. Email classifications are:
To run the report for a specific domain instead of all domains, select Advanced and choose the domain from the Filter by domain field. |
Mailbox activity |
A list of emails received by mailboxes but redirected to the antispam quarantine, and the quarantine size, in megabytes. The top ten quarantined users are also displayed, broken down:

Archive reports
The Archive folder contains report templates that have been replaced or are no longer useful.
