This article applies to organisations with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud), as well as On-Premise only and Cloud only setups.
You can set up your own custom lists to block or allow videos and playlists or prevent them from showing when embedded in other websites. If you have a Hybrid setup (both Cloud and On-Premise Appliance), you can manage your Categories and Web Filter Policies in either place.
On-Premise Appliance
- Go to Guardian > Policy Objects > Categories and select an existing Category or create a Custom Category.
- Select Advanced, paste the items (see below for further details) into the Video ID filtering field, and Save the changes.
- Follow these guides for YouTube and Vimeo. For videos on a different platform, create a Web Filter Policy using your Category to Allow or Block the videos.
- Log out to sync any changes to Cloud Filter.
Playlists
You can block or allow access to all videos in a YouTube playlist using the YouTube playlist ID. For example, in the playlist URL https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9t6_hQVM324K3FfjehcWl4doMySeTCVm the playlist ID is PL9t6_hQVM324K3FfjehcWl4doMySeTCVm
Note
Blocking or allowing playlists does not work for playlists hosted on platforms other than YouTube.
Videos
Use the unique video ID (found near or at the end of the video’s URL):
- An eleven-character YouTube video ID. For example, in the URL https://youtu.be/IDDkcQFrhLk?feature=shared&t=60, the video ID is 'IDDkcQFrhLk'.
- A nine-character Vimeo video ID.
- A seven-character DailyMotion video ID.
Note
Blocking or allowing individual videos may not work for videos hosted on platforms other than YouTube, Vimeo or DailyMotion.
Cloud Filter
Important
Devices must be on Cloud Filter Extension Version 3.1.0 or higher for video filtering.
- Go to Filter > Custom Categories and Edit an existing category or select Add category.
- Paste the items (see below for further details) into the Videos tab.
- Select +Add Video Id.
- Repeat to add other videos or playlists.
- Follow these guides for YouTube and Vimeo. For videos on a different platform, create a Web Filter Policy using your Category to Allow or Block the videos.
- Go to Filter > Publishing and select Publish to sync changes to On-Premise Appliance.
