This article applies to organisations with a 'Hybrid' setup (both On-Premise Appliance and Cloud), as well as On-Premise only and Cloud only setups.
Smoothwall’s Web Filtering functionality allows you to block or allow access to different web content using Web Filter Policies. Web Filter Policies are applied in order of priority, from top to bottom.
In this example Netflix is blocked as a global policy for all users by Policy 2, however, requests made for Netflix URLs made by users identified as part of Filter Group A will be allowed as Policy 1 matches first.

If you have a Hybrid setup (both Cloud and On-Premise Appliance), you can manage your Custom Categories and Web Filter Policies in either place.
On-Premise Appliance
To change the order of your policies:
- Go to Guardian > Web Filter > Manage Policies.
- Either:
- Select and drag the row to the required position.
- Select the row and select either the Up or Down button.
- Select Save.
Cloud Filter
To change the order of your policies:
- Go to Filter > Policies.
- Select and drag the row to the required position.
- After changing, go to Filter > Publishing and select Publish to sync your changes to On-Premise Appliance.
