The following example is based upon a hotel offering an internet service to guest bedrooms, conference rooms with separate subnets for video conferencing, and VoIP traffic, and public areas such as the lobby. A single external interface is configured to be shaped, with a total of 5 Mbit/s (megabits per second) incoming and outgoing bandwidth.
The Default shaping policy has been given a cap of 128 Kbit/s (kilobits per second) for both incoming and outgoing traffic. An additional shaping policy has been added, Premium Service. Like the Default shaping policy, this policy isn't for a specific service or application. It's capped at 2 Mbit/s for both incoming and outgoing traffic.
These classes are setup and are allocated the following bandwidth:
