Once you set up RADIUS Authentication, you can use Access control rules in Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance to block BYO device users in a specific User Group from accessing the wireless network.
To block access to the internet while still allowing access to the wireless network, use Web Filter Policies, Firewall rules or Smoothwall access rules.
The default Access control rule
The default Allow All other groups rule ensures that users without a defined Access control rule aren’t blocked.
- You can only edit the Rule field to change the behaviour from Allow to Block.
- You can’t delete this rule.
Custom Access control rules
You can use a custom Access control rule to add an exception to the default Allow or Block rule.
- The custom Access control rule applies to the selected group, and the default Access control rule applies to any users not matched to a specific Access control rule.
- For users who match multiple custom Access control rules, the Block rule takes priority.
Add an Access control rule
- Go to Services > Authentication > BYOD.
- In the Access control rules section, select Add new access control rule.
- Ensure the Enabled checkbox is selected.
- For Group, select a User Group.
- For Rule, select an option from the dropdown:
- Allow: Specify groups of users who can access the wireless network.
- Block: Prevent specific groups of users from accessing the wireless network.
- (Optional) Enter a comment.
- Select Add.
Edit an Access control rule
- Go to Services > Authentication > BYOD.
- In the Access control rules section, hover over the rule to edit.
- Select Edit.
- Update the fields as required.
- Select Save changes.
Delete an Access control rule
Tip
To keep the rule but have Smoothwall ignore it, edit the rule to clear the Enabled checkbox.
- Go to Services > Authentication > BYOD.
- In the Access control rules section, do one of these actions:
- Hover over the rule, then select Delete.
- Select the checkbox next to the rule, then select Delete.
- To confirm, select Delete.
