You can test the Smoothwall’s connectivity and networking configuration. The test options available to you, depend on the setup of your Smoothwall Filter and Firewall.
Note: All test options are selected by default. However, the test options available depend on the configuration of your Smoothwall.
Run a test

- On the SYSTEM menu, under the Diagnostics submenu, click Functionality tests.
- Expand the relevant Test type and clear the selected tests that you don't want to run. Select from:
- Authentication: Tests the connections to the configured directory services.
- BYOD: Analyzes any BYOD entries in the system logs for errors.
- Basic Connectivity: Tests the connection of the Smoothwall Filter and Firewall to the Internet.

Networking Configuration: Tests the validity of the network configuration.

Guardian tests: Tests basic Smoothwall Filter functionality.

Central management tests: Tests the authentication logon information shares.

VPN Connectivity: Tests the DNS and WINS connections, only if an L2TP road warrior connection is configured.

VPN Certificates: Tests certificates validity, if certificates are used to authenticate VPN users.
Tip: Clearing a selected Test type removes all tests against that test type.
- Click Test selected.
Test results
After you run the tests, a progress bar indicates the test progress and then displays the results in the Functionality test results dialog box. You can review the details of tests with either an amber or red warning status.
The Status indicates if the test ran successfully and if there's an issue that needs your attention.
- A green circle with a white check mark indicates that the test was run successfully, with no follow up actions.
- An amber circle with a white exclamation mark indicates that the test was run successfully. However, an issue was flagged up that doesn't impact on day-to-day operations.
- A red circle with a white cross indicates that a problem was found with the test run.
