Summary Report

The summary report shows you information about a range of services in greater detail than on the dashboard. A green circle with a white check mark against a service indicates that it's operating correctly. The Network ARP Table shows you network based details. The Processor section shows how the system is behaving and you can click through to see the system behaviors and get historical data about load averages. The Memory section indicates how much RAM is being used and the Hard Disk Drive Info section shows how much storage is available.

If you're licensed for it, you can see throughput of bandwidth, current rates. This is useful for troubleshooting. Per IP address statistics can help you understand what the devices on your network are consuming the most data at any point in time. The Network routing table shows you the routing data. You can customize the content of the summary report to suit your needs and run any customized versions on the summary report.

Navigation: Reports > Reports > Summary.

This displays summary information about your Smoothwall installation, including:

  • The running status of system services
  • Network ARP table
  • Updates for your Smoothwall

  • Summary of up-time
  • Processor information
  • Memory information
  • Hard disk drive information
  • Interface and host bandwidth usage
  • Per IP address statistics
  • Network routing table

To run the report, either Enter the date range and click Run report, or look on the Summary page.

Alerts
Alerts These notify you of several things. For example, an administrator sign-in failure or a series of occurring events over a specified period.
System services
Core Services The core services' status of your Smoothwall Filter and Firewall, which should always be running, such as the web server or syslog. Core services only have two states, running or error.
Optional Services The status of any additional services.
Network Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Table
IP Shows you details of the network details. Click the interface name to open the Interface details report for that interface.

Numbers of requests processed and blocked by the web filter
Statistic Shows you details of the requests processed and blocked by the Smoothwall Filter.

Processor Shows you how the system is behaving, and you can click the graph to open the System Load Averages report to get historical data about load averages. The load average on the summary report is static. The load average graph shows an abstract representation of the system workload. It's not just a measure of CPU load but rather an abstract that tries to give you a general insight into how well the system is coping with the workload. The load average is an abstract value and uses CPU load, memory load and disk load to create the load average number. This means that a high load does not necessarily mean that the CPU is busy. Memory
Programs Shows you how much RAM is being used by your Smoothwall Filter and Firewall hardware appliance. Click the graphs to open the Memory Usage report and the Swap Usage report.

IP address Shows you the devices on your network consuming the most data at any point in time.

Network routing table
Destination The network destination of the route.
Gateway The network point that acts as an entrance to another network.
Netmask The network mask, or netmask, that hides the network part of an IP address so that only the host part of the address remains.
Flags The routing table status. It indicates the quality of service associated with the route. For example, the U flag indicates that an IP route is up, the G flag indicates that the route is to a gateway, the H flag indicates that the destination is a fully qualified host address, rather than a network.
Metric Indicates the associated cost of using the indicated route. This is useful for determining the efficiency of a certain route from two points in a network.
Interface Indicates what locally available interface is responsible for reaching the gateway. Click the name to open the Interface details report for the interface.
