The Smoothwall’s VPN system can be set to start automatically when the system is started. This means that road warriors can tunnel in without having to wait for the system to be started manually. It also means that site-to-site tunnels initiated on the Smoothwall can negotiate a site-to-site connection automatically.
Use the Control page to control the VPN system manually or automatically and to view the status of connections.
Navigation: NETWORK > VPN > Control.
Procedure
On the NETWORK menu, under the VPN submenu, click Control.
On each of the sections on this page (IPsec subnets, IPsec road warriors, L2TP road warriors and SSL road warriors), selecting Up initiates the connection and brings the tunnel up, and Down closes the tunnel connection.
- To control the VPN system automatically, under the Automatic control section, select Start VPN sub-system automatically and click Save.
- To start or restart the VPN system manually, under the Manual control section, click Restart. Current status changes to "Running" when all tunnels have connected.
- To stop the VPN system manually, under the Manual control section, click Stop. Current status changes to "Stopped" when all tunnels have disconnected.
