You can use Link Load Balancing pools in Source NAT & LLB rules to share traffic originating from IP addresses across multiple interfaces, increasing your available bandwidth in Smoothwall On-Premise Appliance.
Tip
You don't need to configure Link Load Balancing pools if your Smoothwall Appliance routes internet-bound traffic through a single gateway.
Before you begin
Go to Network > Configuration > Interfaces and ensure the Bandwidth fields are set to the expected bandwidth of the upstream connection. For example, if you have a 1000 Mbps internet connection, but use 10,000 Mbps networks, set the value to ‘1000’ to indicate the expected bandwidth of the internet link is 1000 Mbps.
Add a new pool
- Go to Network > Configuration > Link Load Balancing.
- Select Add new LLB pool.
- Enter a Name.
- For Target bandwidth select:
- Use maximum bandwidth: Use the maximum available bandwidth for this pool, so traffic is load-balanced across the connections added to the pool.
- User defined: Define the minimum bandwidth needed. For example, if you have two connections of 100 Mbps and 50 Mbps, enter a minimum of 100 Mbps.
- If you selected User defined, add the minimum bandwidth in kbps or Mbps.
- (Optional) Enter a comment.
- Select Add.
Add Connections
- Select the Link Load Balancing pool to see the Connections list.
- Select Add new connection.
- Ensure the Enabled checkbox is selected.
- For the Local address dropdown, select the interface that the traffic for this pool should use.
- (Optional) Enter a comment.
- Select Add.
- If you selected the Target bandwidth to be User-defined, order the connections with the highest bandwidth at the top. To reorder, select a connection and then drag and drop it into its new position.
Edit a Link Load Balancing pool
